The fall 2011 issue of T E News devoted itself to the question of “What is Entertainment?” It’s an expansive topic, as entertainment can be anything from the private entertainments of the individual who chooses a movie from his or her vast array of pre-recorded products; to banquets adapted for two; to performances for thousands, such as those at a theater. It can have a serious purpose, as in ceremony, celebration, religious festival, or even satire. But it is largely associated with amusement, and it is that sense of fun and amusement that this article examines.
